My current knowledge/thoughts on Genjutsu
Basic Facts: Genjutsu is the art of Illusion, achievable by chakra control within the targets cerebral nervous system, affecting the targets senses, in attempts of tricking them into thinking what their experiencing is reality.
Most Genjutsu can be broken, either with self inflicted pain, a seal that has chakra stored in it, which will activate upon being put into a genjutsu. They're are also other jutsu to help some one escape an illusion and or being skilled ninja with strong visual prowess such as the sharingan, where as most genjutsu are not as effective against. An illusion may be casted through immediate eye contact, touch, or activate by looking at a certain "point", of which the user is using as a beacon.

My Thoughts: aka The Mind Games, it takes strong mental awareness to be able to cast and or detect an illusion. Genjutsu will not be effective against Byakugan users and most Sharingan users are extremely strong users of this art.

( Magen: Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu ) - Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique

Description: The user casts an illusion over an area that allows him to manipulate the way an area looks to fool an opponent. He can only change the way the terrain looks, and not any other feature.

( Genjutsu: Kahen Tonsou ) - Illusion Technique: Flower Petal Escape

Description: The user makes five handseals, appearing to dissolve into a shower of cherry blossom petals. These petals surround the opponent, blocking his vision. This allows the user to mask his movement effectively.

the second one you just "turn" into petals surronding your opponent. Using this to escape.. though ofc a simple wind jutsu out burst can handle that

the third one is majorly useless. In the genjutsu ur opponent sees u coming towards him but its actually a paper bomb..

Description: The user performs two handseals causing it to appear as if a swirl of leaves surrounds the opponent. The swirl eventually falls away, and after a few seconds, the opponent sees the image of whatever they fear the most, shocking them and potentially causing them to faint.

Description:
A simple technique, this genjutsu works solely as a defensive measure. The user will produce an illusionary copy of himself while he escapes the path/area of the attack with a rapid movement, unnoticed and masked by the technique. The enemy will see and hear the user in the original place until the attack connects with the illusionary copy, at which point it will disperse, revealing the true location of the user. The technique can be controlled so as to have the illusionary copy interact and talk in specific ways with the enemy for other purposes, while the user remains hidden from the targets perception. The illusion is often personalized from user to user, namely in its dispersion, sometimes in relation to the users elemental affinity or summoning companions, following a theme unique to him. The limitation is that the user cannot escape large techniques with this ability nor incredibly fast ones, since the escape is his movement and, as such, is limited to small scaled attacks or normal paced ones. Only techniques which can be escaped by moving out of their way running or through movement can be defended from with this. The main limit however, is that, since its a sustainable illusion, triggering any offensive action towards the target will immediately release the illusion, be it a simple taijutsu move or a ninjutsu attack; any aggressive action the user wants to take will immediately break his focus and control over the technique, releasing the target from it. The stronger the user is with the usage of Genjutsu, the more effective and strong the illusion will be and more times can it be used.
Note: This version can only be used by ninjas without a Sharingan.
Note: Genjutsu users can use the technique thrice per match, D-Rank; Secondary Genjutsu Specialists can use the technique four times per match, C-Rank; Primary Genjutsu Specialists can use the technique five times per match; B-Rank.
Note: Movement speed is bound by the users rank.

( Kasumi Jūsha no Jutsu ) - Mist Servant Technique
Using the illusion to make it seem as if the users physical form is duplicating constantly from different areas of the battefield, in which the user may coordinate a combination of virtual attacks using the clones within the illusion.

( Magen: Narakumi ) - Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing
After performing two hand seals, leaves will seem to swirl around the opponent, causing the opponent to visualize their worst fear(s).

(Genjutsu: Kawarimi ) Illusion Technique: Substitution
A good evasive genjutsu in which when the user is in a tight situation they will form an illusion clone, serving as a distraction while the user escapes unnoticed[low rank occasions]. Upon the user using an Offensive jutsu, the illusion clone will disperse, revealing the users actual location.

The moment Priest glances at him, he would put him in a genjutsu where he begins to sink in the ground. Its just as if the ground had turned to liquid all of a sudden. The genjutsu is B-rank in power. Priest watches carefully to see how the student reacts.

As i wondered why the man is just staring at me, i could feel the surface beneath the soles of my feet begin to soften as if it were sinking, i quickly release a huge amount of raiton chakra, sending it surging throughout my body and into the ground beneath me, with intents of stopping the ground from further sinking.

Raiton: Chidori Nagashi) - Lightning Release: One Thousand Birds Current
Type: Offensive/Defensive
Rank: A
Range: Short (Mid if channeled through a medium)
Chakra: 30
Damage: N/A (+10 if used to boost weapon damage)
Description: This jutsu allows the user to generate non-focused electricity from their body. It can be used as an omnidirectional attack or be channeled through weapons, the ground or other conductive mediums. Because the electricity isn't focused, it doesn't kill on contact, instead it has great numbing and paralyzing effects. To channel Nagashi through a medium, the user needs to focus the technique into one of his hands which will then be put in contact with the medium and can only choose to either do a widespread attack throughout his whole body or to channel it into something; he cannot achieve both usages at the same time. Despite not having much destructive or damaging properties, Nagashi can be used to destroy low rank earthen and wooden structures and even negate chakra on the ground to stop high ranked earth and wood techniques. It has also been noted that Lightning Specialists that have mastered Lightning to the highest degree can resist total paralyzation, although they still feel the pain and numbing effects.
Note: Paralyzation lasts 1 turn if sucessful but is ineffective against bios who have a primary Lightning Specialty

Genjutsu layering usually consist of two layers of genjutsu casted on the target(s), first layer is usually a simple surrounding change, if the target releases the first layer the second layer of genjutsu will activate, with intents of tricking the targets mind into thinking they released the genjutsu, second layer usually involves a more detailed terrain. One way to bypass both layers is to inflict self pain or a surge of chakra throughout your body(depending on Genjutsu rank).

Genjutsu layering is not only done with terrain change but can also be used to alter specific details in a genjutsu. For example, I have genjutsu A that makes you see falling kunais, I can use genjutsu B that makes you see money to change the detail in genjutsu A. This mean, genjutsu A would now be money falling instead of Kunais. There are many ways you can use layering, its up to your wide imagination.

The Holy one paused for a second and asked the student

Out of the genjutsus you've learnt, put me in a layered genjutsu. Don't do the terrain change one. Also remember, the first genjutsu must not be lower in rank that the second, hence it risks being broken by the second genjutsu. Meaning, Gen A = A-rank, then Genjutsu B can only be A-rank and below and not above.

As the words left Sensei Priests lips, i release chakra to form illusionary clones of myself appearing from all over the training grounds between myself and Priest, as the clones appeared they would run towards Priest in a rabid manner.

Immediately after casting the first jutsu i perform a single quick hand seal before throwing an explosive tagged kunai aimed toward Priests chest. The illusionary clone casted by the [ET]Kunai will appear to run at its target in a rabid manner such as the other illusionary clones, only this illusionary clone will not appear from the ground, but drirectly from my physical body, traveling straight forward toward the target, with intentions of blowing up once within range of Priest.

Good!, said Priest as he breaks free from both genjutsu with a single C-rank chakra surge.

Its imperative you know how to break from layered illusions. You break the higher ranking genjutsu and you break both. You break the lower ranking genjutsu then you would still need to break the higher ranking one. If the genjutsus are same rank then a chakra surge able to break one of them would break both.

Understood, and yes- If the opponent is casted within the first genjutsu may another genjutsu be layered with it if it needs to be seen to be casted or will the opponent be able to see it withing the first genjutsu further layering it? i then begin to open my eyes wider
