Anyone who has a question pertaining the ones picked should read all my posts regarding med school changes since I became responsible for it. I've received god knows how many complaints (Cali and the others as well) about people who never finished med school because it took a ridiculous amount of time (years...) and sometimes were dropped for a transitional inactivity of a few weeks or a month, all of them dropping on our inboxes when Vincent left.
So, when it came to my hands, I set two goals that I explained to Cali and he agreed: 1) I wanted medical school to function without needing my or any other moderators direct tasks (basically, we oversee the school but we shouldn't be needed for it to function and teach members) and 2) I wanted the system to be more open and, because of that, I wanted to allow entrance on permission prizes such as tournaments, rp lotery, etc but also through the customary applications which, from the begining, was my intention to allow people who started it before but never got to complete it to be given a chance to complete it along with new students. This was never hidden nor did I ever said otherwise. The moment I explained what would happen to medical school I made it pretty clear I wanted to allow old members to return to the school and finish it.
The reasons are many, most of which are simply fairness. If you've been a member for years in this rp, gained the top tier abilities and even during a time period in the past got accepted to medical school but unfortunately never got to complete it, its not really feasible to say "hey! suck it...you're not welcome anymore". My name is not Gloria Gaynor.
You cannot complain or question the introduction of old members because it was never hidden that it would be allowed or intended. You can be curious about why Lili gobi and baldy were picked between all the applicants that had been in medical school but not that we picked old people who were once inside medical school in the past. That was never a question as it was always the intention, one quite public and clear.
Lili and Gobi were easy picks: from all those who applied that had been in medical school, they were the oldest ones. Both nearly finished it. No reason to not allow them and they had priority in a sense due to that. From all the others, Baldy was a student that did quite well in medical school and had to drop out due to RL inactivity in one of the last batches in the school. So I picked him.
Korra I picked because I felt she/he fit all the requirements to be a medical ninja plus being a sensei allowed the possibility that, if the training was finished and did well, she/he could be a medical sensei. Which is needed for the system to work. Korra is also a member we might consider of the higher tier of the RP (having ce's, being a sensei, etc etc). Tybone is a good and nice member, has been around for ages and never really asked for many abilities. He's always on the silent side of NB and, despite being a good rpear, is what we might consider "general population" or mid tier rpear. Xicer is the new member. Almost no training, no experience, no special abilities and a low rank. We can consider him a "low tier". This was why I picked them. Basically to create a balanced group that was fairly spread across diferent dimensions in terms of career progression.
I cannot expect to please everyone. If I deny those who entered in the past to enter again, complaints are issued about fairness. If I do allow them and make them a priority over others or on the same level, people complain of fairness because they were picked once before. If I treat each individually and allow people from both groups to enter, people complain of fairness. If I don't take into consideration behavior and demeanor, people who are nice feel cheated and call out unfair treatment. If I do, those with infractions, history of insults and rule breaking, etc shout about how thats irrelevant and that we are bias and what not. In 2+ years as a moderator I've come to accept two things: 1) my judgement, word, opinion, etc still means jack squat to most of the community and 2) I will never please the majority of the community regardless of what I do. So, if I cannot please anyone in this community as a whole, I'll please my own conscience and do things in any way that I feel is fair and right. And I'll simply continue to trust that my own judgement and mind set are correct until someone has proven to me otherwise. And whomever disagrees has the right to talk to Caliburn about it.
Any other questions about Medical School can be directed to my pm box or through a suggestion in the suggestion section if thats the case. If its to complain, argue or report something you feel is incorrect, please direct yourself to Caliburn's inbox. Thank you.
