the max text length of a private message is to damn short so I used this to help him
hope you people don't mind me helping him this way xd
hope this is helpful
ooh and if anyone sees something that is incorrect please post it because I did this from the top of my head

hhmmmm
if it is for children under the age of 17 complex things like the galaxy and advanced physics are out of the question.
are they religious??
if so a lot of stuff can offend people and you don't want that to happen.
I think the easiest thing to do is do a chemistry demonstration
take some red cabbage and get the juice out (use a mortel)
it contains something named cyanidine (think the English name is anthocyanin but I'm not sure)
it is in the vacuole (don't know if this is the correct name for the container of nutrients and other stuff inside a plant cell, it is that large blob inside the cells) so the vacuole have to be crushed to get it out
cyanidine changes colour based on the pH degree
from the top of my head it will turn red/pink in acid (pH<7 like vinegar)
purple in neutral solutions and blue in alkaline solutions (like ammonium, make sure you can close the thing you do this in because it creates vapour that isn't quite healthy and makes it hard to breath) and colourless in very alkaline solutions
but there is more
Anthocyanins have been used in organic solar cells because of their strong light harvesting, and their ability to convert of this light energy into electrical energy. this is an amazing thing to demonstrate but might be out of your reach because you have to purify it (steam distillation together with other technics)
always interest everyone each and every time I give a demonstration to yough people (you know youth)
is also is a powerful anti oxidant (catching free radicals, you know, radicals are stuff that wants to react like crazy and can damage DNA)
it can be used as sunblock against UV light (protecting the DNA from harmful radiation)
and it has many more interesting stuff
I have more ideas if you need them but this is by far the easiest to execute and the one that gets a lot of attention if you present it well
