Maybe silver knew who natsu is , because igneel mentioned him .
Just like edo grandine Knew about wendy from grandine ?
Silver didn't seem like he knew lisanna .So he is not future gray or demon gray etc..
Plus when natsu said: "gray ...". he was about to say gray and something else .
The smell has some connection to gray but
Not that it was gray's himself .
