I dont see hy the SO6P would be a Toad Sage. Hashirama was a Sage of Nature (wood akin to the god-tree) and therefore did not need a contract. So i dont see how Rikudo Sennin would seeing as he was not only the Jinchuriki of the juubi (god-tree) but also the son of the rabbit goddess who had eaten the fruit from the tree itself thus being born with power.

I believe Hashirama was a slug sage.
He started healing rapidly without seals the moment he got into sage mode and slugs are about the healing.

Sage mode empowers all your abilities.
The wood summons were so increased in size because of sage mode in general and didnt have to come from a wood/nature like sage mode. Maybe there were, but they didnt have to.
Reasons for the healing could be from something else too, seeing how Naruto heals without seals as well and he is Ashura's reincarnation too, just as Hashirama.

If Hagoromo's sage mode is not from the toads, than it has to do with the Juubi yeah.

Maybe Ashura was a toad sage I dunno.
They must have met the old toad sage Gamamaru somehow.
