QUICK NOTE: I don't smoke weed, but I do drink on occasion.

This year 3.3million people have died from alcohol abuse in 2012 alone. If you break that down that's about 1 person very 10sec. When you take that into consideration about half the worlds population drinks alchohal.

How many people do you think died of a marijuana overdose very sec this year though, um that would be 0, how about every ten min, once again 0, wait what about all year. Once again 0 fatalities. Between 1999, and 2007 only 27 people are believed to have died of complications due to smoking marijuana, but it's still uncertain. It would take someone 1,500 pounds of marijuana smoked within an hour to overdose, which is physically impossible.

They point I'm getting at is that if between the two alchohal should be the illegal one , because it causes so many health problems that come with it such as addiction, neurological problems(dementia, stroke, neuropathy), cardiovascular problems(myocardial infarction, cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, hypertension), psychiatric problems(depression, anxiety, suicide), cancer of the mouth, throat, liver, colon, and breast, liver diseases(alcoholic hepatitis, chirossis), social problems(unemployment, lost productivity, family/marital problems)

List of health problems of marijuana is, short term memory impairment, decreased sperm count and sperm motility, interference with ovulation and pre natal development, impaired immune response, but researches have yet to link marijuana smoke to lung cancer.

So my question is hypothetically if both were illegal, but the government was thinking of making one legal, which one do you guys think should be legalized?

Weed > Alcohol, any day. History has shown us over time which is worse for society. I definitely think weed should be legal if alcohol is.

You won't die from smoking pot, but smoking still isn't 'healthy'. The hops and barley in beer actually provide some nutrition to your body but that's about the extent of anything beer does to your health. Neither ethanol or THC are healthy in the traditional sense of the word but THC is safer than alcohol.

However correct you may be in pointing out the effects of drinking alcohol, the image of marijuana is far worse than that of alcohol. Alcohol can be used on any occasion and is accepted in all circles. You can drink alcohol at weddings, baby showers, any type of party and so on. The image of marijuana is people making the " exchange " money from hand, weed to hand. That image of selling on the streets and major criminals and drug lords selling it made marijuana's acceptability low and makes it somewhat frowned upon in some circles. However, now the demand for marijuana is ridiculously high, so it is forcing the government to legalize it in the future because it is virtually impossible to stop.

A lot of drug lords like Pablo Escobar, Amado Fuentes and the Ochoa Brothers stopped selling weed in the 70's and 80's because Americans figured out how to grow it themselves. But during the time they were selling weed they were also selling cocain and those drug lords were big time murderers as well so again the image of marijuana is very tainted just from being sold on the streets. I myself do not smoke anything or drank alcohol or liquor but almost everyone in my family and a lot of people in general I know partake in such a thing, I have nothing against weed but I don't do it mainly because a lot of weed smokers get that " **** it " mentality after smoking and decide not to handle their business and because a lot of people started smoking just to fit in and because I have a lot of things to accomplish in life and because I am not a follower I just don't do it.

Yeah I favor alcohol too. I think marijuana should be legalized though if alcohol is, since the positive health effects far superseded the minimal list if negative ones. Drinking a beer a day, or a glass of wine a day is good for your heart though. Basically to much of a good thing can be bad, and sometimes a little of a bad thing can be good.

True Weed is tainted by drug lords but look at what happened when they Banned alcohol in 1900(In America) Gangsters and Mobster sold it and maid millions. If we legalize weed it would honestly be less of a problem. Personally i think instead of banning drugs we should focus on fixing the problems in Addicts lives that made them turn to drugs and helping them get better

Just 2,000,000, that's it. Do you know how much major drug dealers make off of weed alone in one year, easily over 2,000,000 so that argument still stands. I do believe once weed is legalized as a whole by the federal government it will make a lot of drug dealers go out of business from selling weed eventually.

Truth but what about big known states like CALI, NY, FLORIDA, ATL I wonder if these states come close to that 2 million, it will be over price in these states and I live in NY I know the price for weed will be some bulls**t
