As one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, Mangetsu was one of the most powerful shinobi produced within Kirigakure. Mangetsu's generation of swordsmen was even noted to be the strongest in the village's history. Mangetsu was also capable of using Silent Killing, as seen when fighting the Third Division of the Allied Shinobi Forces while under the effect of Zabuza Momochi's Hiding in Mist Technique. In the anime, as a testament of his skills, he was the last of the Seven Swordsmen standing when his six revived comrades were sealed, even without his sword.
As a member of the Hōzuki clan, Mangetsu is proficient in the use of Water Release nature manipulation and can use his clan's main secret technique to liquify his body at will. With knowledge and use of this technique, it can also be assumed that he is well versed in his clan's other secret techniques that revolve around its use.
Kenjutsu
Mangetsu was a very gifted swordsman, having been accepted into the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist. According to his younger brother, Suigetsu, he was called the "Second Coming of the Demon" (鬼人の再来, Kijin no Sairai), which so happens to be the same nickname that Suigetsu himself shares. His skill, power and chakra were such that he was able to wield all seven blades of the swordsmen, including the notoriously picky blade: Samehada. His recognition of wielding the seven famed swords was further shown from him being trusted to carry all them in a scroll until battling. However, Mangetsu was unable to completely master all the swords before his untimely death. Having been born and raised in Kirigakure, Mangetsu is perfectly capable of fighting in the hidden mist jutsu or any situations with low visibility thanks to his exceptional hearing allowing him to locate his targets with this sense alone.
Having been trained in the art of creating heavy artillery tags by KeotsuEclipse. Mangetsu uses these unique tags in place of all other exploding tags he owns, due to their clear superiority.

Mangetsu has shoulder-length, white-coloured hair and pointed, shark-like teeth — the latter trait which all known members of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist possess. He wore an outfit very similar to his brother's, which consisted of a black, sleeveless shirt, light-purple-coloured pants and striped leg-warmers typical of his village. His true eye color is unknown, but upon being reincarnated, his scelera turned black and being in complete control of his summoner, his irides turned white. Like his brother, he carried a water bottle attached to a belt around his waist and wore bandages around his neck — another trait shared by the seven swordsmen — and the standard Kirigakure forehead protector. Overall, Mangetsu and Suigetsu bore great resemblance to one another.
Personality
Apparently Mangetsu was a lot more humble and calm than his brother Suigetsu. This was stated by Kisame Hoshigaki.

History
Both Mangetsu and his brother Suigetsu trained with the intention of becoming members of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist together. This dream acted as their motivation for them both to complete cruel missions day by day. Mangetsu eventually succeeded in becoming a member of the Seven Swordsmen, learning how to wield all seven of the swords.

Description: More than a technique, ability or skill, the Will of Fire and the Will of Darkness are, instead, teachings and philosophical beliefs that induce specific ways of teaching and acting towards the protection of the Village.
The will of fire is an idea taught to and carried by all members of Konoha. It is the belief that only through love, understanding and decisive action can true peace be acquired, though never by attacking others and rather by protecting something the individual holds dear. The belief is a spiritual heritage that was created by Hashirama Senju and passed down to all the villagers and shinobi of Konoha. Shinobi who carry this belief love the village with all their heart and will fight to protect it even against the most significant odds. It gives them the strength to keep going even when the situation looks grim. When defending the village the Will of Fire gives the shinobi of Konoha the extra strength needed to defeat the invading forces and the will power to continue the battle after receiving damage, ensuring the Will of Fire is never extinguished.
Can only be used by members of Konohagakure who embody the Will of Fire.
Only usable when defending the village from external threats.
Normal members receive a +10 damage boost as well as a strength and speed boost equivalent to one rank (based on the NB ranking system). So for example a Jounin would gain the strength/speed of an S-Class Ninja, a S-Class Ninja would gain the strength/speed of a Sannin).

The antithesis to the Will of Fire, the Will of Darkness is a school of thought that was developed by Shimura Danzo during the reign of Hiruzen Sarutobi and taught to the members of the Root (Ne). He instilled this will within members of his Root organization so that they would be able to carry out their missions successfully and without failure. The Will of Darkness holds the belief that one must protect what he loves by aggressive action and the destruction of all potential threats, no matter the moral cost or context. Where the Will of Fire is based on the defense of the village, the Will of Darkness is based on the attack of its enemies. After his death and the dissolution of Root, his will spread into other Konoha shinobi as former root members began to integrate themselves back into normal village organizations. People who have committed themselves to this school of thought understand the need to eliminate threats and do things that may be considered amoral for the greater good. As a result they battle without hesitation and with a greater ferocity when committing acts of aggression than those who adhere to the Will of Fire.

As a trained practitioner in fuuinjutsu, Mangetsu has a reverse four symbols seal on his chest along with having the dragon slayer seals implanted in his throat. He also has weapon summoning seals on both wrists containing needles that he can throw at opponents.

These exploding tags can be used in place of weaker ones in jutsu involving them.

Two handles are connected to one another by a short length of cord, earning it the title of "twinsword" (双刀, sōtō). The overall sword looks like a flounder fish in shape. With its bandages wrapped around Hiramekarei, it looks similar to Samehada. Hiramekarei is apparently very heavy, as Chōjūrō tires easily when carrying it for extended periods of time. Despite learning to use all seven swords of the mist including the picky samehada. Mangetsu's primary sword is this.
