With the recent "Fix my sharingan" threads going around, I thought I would gather up some images and take a moment to discribe the Mangekyou Blindness Syndrome (from here on out I will refer to it as MBS). We all pretty much know what MBS is, when a sharingan user obtains the Mangekyou Sharingan they gain a great ammount of power. But that power is a double-edged sword, because the more they use that power the faster they fall into total blindness.
Before I go into what causes this, I'm first going to explain a little about the biology of the eye. The eye is sort of like a hollowed out onion as it's made up of several layers. The outer layer has two parts, the sclera and the cornea. The sclera is the white surface which blocks light from entering the eye and acts as the outer wall of the eye while the cornea is a curved membrane which allows light to pass through like a window into the eye. The middle layer of the eye is the vascular layer which contains the choriod, ciliary body, and the iris. The choriod is like a blood packet which surrounds the inner eye and keeps light from escaping. The ciliary body is a collection of fibers (or muscles if you will) which allow you to focus the lens which resides within the cornea (this is what causes your eyes to dialate). And the iris is what gives your eyes their color and regulates light within the eye. The last layer of the eye is the retina, this part of the eye is kind of like the photodiode of a digital camera. It captures the light after it enters the eye and translates it into an image. Now, there are many variations of blindness such as cataracts, which is a lens disorder, or color blindness which is a retinal/nerve disorder. The Mangekyou doesn't show the characteristics of either of these types of blindness. But, something very unique does happen with the Mangekyou Sharingan that doesn't happen with the others, which we can plainly see here:
Comparing the normal Sharingan, Kakashi's Advanced Sharingan, and the Mangekyou Sharingan were you able to notice the primary (medical) difference? Unlike the previous two, the Mangekyou Sharingan fractures the sclera which is designed to protect the eye from over-exposure to light. Repeated use of the Mangekyou Sharingan without allowing the sclera to properly heal would weaken the membrane and eventually burn the retina. Because of this, these "Fix my sharingan" threads are a bit redundant and I don't really believe they can be fixed. Although, there is a possible external device remedy (even though it would only slow down the MBS from taking effect). The external device would be a form of contact lense which covers the sclera with a solid black liner making it impossible for light to pass through. Unfortunately, this device could not be worn during combat so MBS would still progress during combat but afterwards wearing such a device would stunt the progression and elongate your Mangekyou Sharingan lifespan.
