I was wondering, the sharingan is progressed to the Mangekyo Sharingan through the emotional trauma of killing a close friend or family member, that the wielder cares deeply for. Sasuke killed his brother Itachi, but didn't unlock the MS until he was informed of Itachi's good nature, and unfaltering love for Sasuke.
So What I was wondering is, could the Mangekyo sharingan be activated if, let's say an Uchiha is placed under a genjutsu powerful enough for the Uchiha to not see through it with his sharingan, and in the illusion is forced to kill a friend or relative. In that moment, the Uchiha would feel the same emotions, believing it to be real. Could this cause him/her to progress to the MS, whilst under the genjutsu, and when the genjutsu is released, the Uchiha could return to the reality, in which his family and friends are fine, and yet he has awakened the MS, and able to use it freely?
