forcing it to end of chapter 700 was stupid. Kaguya should have been defeated on chapter 700 with 2 volumes chronicling a more epic and climactic struggle, with more development to her character and maybe a backstory to how she turned corrupt. Then we have 2 volumes for the Naruto and Sasuke fight, then maybe 2 chapters to wrap up the aftermath of their battle and undoing of IT. After that 1 chapter time skip forward to Naruto finally becoming Hokage and some inner monologue of him recalling what he learned from everything that happened in the manga. Then last chapter 720 shows their kids and how the world has become more peaceful with the new generation of Kages. Final scene is Naruto eating ramen with Boruto, the end.

SJ made Masashi end it on 700 for some reason. Probably cause it's a cool number. I like cool numbers too but they go overboard with it.

Yeah last 2 fights could have been so much better and Kaguya could have had a deeper meaning laid out for her if they expanded on her backstory and true motive.

Hopefully the anime extends things.

Once the writer and publishers decided that they are going to end a story, they needed to pick a number to plan the next step. It could have been 701 or 698. It's not a big deal that they chose an even number. As they published two chapters at once in the end- it seems they had to end it by that day. Not surprising seeing the movie release date were set and already spoiling the story climax.

The movie studio probably chose a small gap between the story ending to reap the post anime/manga depression fans feel, lapping up anything served to them. :|

The last 20 or so chapters and the ending did feel rushed, especially compared to how the pacing was with the alliance vs Obito.

But the timeskip at chapter 700 sent a clear message that Kishi was done writing Part 2, and if anything would be released in the future, it would be next gen material.

It was rushed, alright. Kishi said that last 1 and half year he was on schedule in which he must cover a certain part in a single chapter. Since the last date and other plans were already decided he couldn't carry it over to the next chapter anymore unlike he could before. He added that this was the hardest part to squeeze everything in , in limited spaces each week and there were too many times he felt he was done because of that difficulty. So it's official. (source: his interview with Oda)

I believe it's because Naruto was declining in sales.

I doubt it, even if it had less sales then before, it was still one of it's top sellers. Besides, if sales was a big problem they would have gotten rid of Bleach by now.
