These are the top selling mangas of 2014. And as expected OP tops the list again (although it barely made it there). But the most surprising thing is that Tokyo ghoul made it to the top 5 even after being a Seinen manga. So this is history being created by a seinen manga.
And our Naruto was ranked sixth.
Also surprisingly no Toriko in top 30.

Well, we english readers don't get many jokes and puns mentioned in Gintama, since after translation they lose their meaning.
Also a few serious arcs of Gintama are amazing. Lol

Not really some people like me for instance still get their jokes even after the translation... most of it i dare say,

OT : Apparently One Piece is 1st yet again, and i here thought Shingeki No Kyokin might pull an upset after topping the 1st half sales.

Good to see OP at #1. Toriko has been pulling out amazing chapters every week for the past few months, it could really use an anime for Madhouse once they're done with Parasyte. I don't get the hype for TG, it's not that great.

It wouldn't have gotten cancelled even if Naruto still continued. The manga still reaches the top 10 in it's rankings (Toriko was placed like #7 in the latest WSJ ranking I believe) and I don't see a 300+ chapter manga series getting cancelled like that. It's usually the lesser known series with 10-30 chapters that get cancelled. (Hungry Joker/Iron Knight)

I expect an anime coming soon, whether it's from trash toei or some other studio.

It would have been cancelled if Kishimoto decided to continue with part 3, and yes you don't see a 300 chapter manga get cancelled like that....... unless jump need more slot for a new series, especially when someone like Obata Takeshi a man with 3 hit manga under his name is submitting a new series for serialization,

And that's not the only problem with Toriko, in the 1st place what do you think separate Toriko from the other shounen manga ? FOOD, yes its their unique setting about FOOD that make them stand out, now i don't even know what Toriko is doing anymore, its become borderline to brutal for jump has gone hand in hand with it continuously falling off. Mindless death and violence is not what is needed in the current ecosystem and its only hanging on due to tepid reception of newer series,

since HXH already occupied one place and the other 2 new series is still in its early stage... yes a manga with 300 chapter can easily get axed, it happens before with Beelzebub and Sket Dance.

As much as I love Toriko, I honestly do agree it should have been a seinen and not a Shonen Jump manga. It screams Seinen so much, but oh well. Hopefully it finishes before the thought of it being cancelled even begins :(

That doesn't mean the series is going to get cancelled lol. What, you think they were oblivious to the gore that Toriko had for so many years? You think the editors never said anything about it? It's not mindless violence or death either. There hasn't been a death of a major character that's been "mindless". Nope, Toriko wouldn't have been cancelled if there was a part 3 with Naruto. You really don't know what you're talking about. Just because it has one poor year doesn't mean it's getting the axe. I'm not saying it's impossible for Toriko to get cancelled either, it's just that it's not as likely as you're making it out to be. That whole Naruto saving Toriko BS that you love preaching so much is retarded and baseless, it's just a fanfiction of yours.

If that was an issue they would of pointed it out by now. Toriko has had a lot of gore since the earlier chapters. It's not like the main protagonists are teenagers/pre-teens like most shonen series, they're adults. Is it even possible for a series to switch from SJ to seinen? Did that ever happen before?

Why not ? Toriko does have gore but back then they also have the "shounen trait" with the entire theme about FOOD there is a balance between FOOD and fighting, people love that, now its all about muscle... they're still looking for food but for the most time its all about power, they have no shounen appeal anymore, they might have shounen appeal but that appeal is old, let see.... the closest manga that i can relate to the current Toriko is probably Dragon Ball,

If you watched Bakuman you'll know that 1 bad year is more than enough to get a series axed in Jump,

I have tons of plausible reason why Toriko will get cancelled if Kishimoto continues with part 3 and your only defense is " I don't see a 300+ chapter manga series getting cancelled like that " its as clear as day which one of us who don't know what they're talking about,

Believe what you want but the Naruto series that you hate so much just save your beloved Toriko ass from getting axed.

As long as I know long mangas can be cancelled were easy if their sales are bad. I think Shaman King (around 300 chapters) was cancelled, nearly by the end.

Toriko also don't have anime, which is one of the reason why it sell less, anime boost manga sales.

l0l clearly you don't really understand what's going on with Toriko. Ingredients or at least the ones that are worthy to devote a chapter towards are much harder to obtain than the ones in human world. They are gourmet hunters after all. We've had several chapters just about preparing the food in the last arc and one chapter devoted to eating AIR. It still has the balance between food and fighting, it's just that now it's harder to obtain the food items even with the 4HK working together. There's an emphasis on how dangerous the gourmet world is now. People enjoy Toriko for it's food, fighting and expansive world which is still present and balanced quite nicely. Well it's no surprise that they are becoming more powerful since they are eating Acacia's full course items who is seen as that savior in their verse. What, do you want a regression in power? l0l0l0l

>"Has no shounen appeal anymore"
>Compares it closely to DB

Okay, lmao. Shonen traits are still evident whether you want to deny it or not. It's that there's a lot more blood/gore than the typical shonen series which is fine and it's not mindless like you've stated. Power-ups is still a shonen trait.

Yes tons of illogical reasons. My reasoning was that it was doing fairly well in rankings and seeing how it should return once DBK returns I don't see it ending even if Naruto continued. If a series is doing well in rankings whether it's true or not that the readers have little influence on the rankings, it would still support my conclusion. Toriko has made multiple appearances in the front cover of WSJ on top of that.

Nah, it didn't. It's not like Toriko's rankings would of decreased if Naruto was still continuing or it's likelihood of getting axed will increase. It's been featured with OP (Luffy) & Naruto in multiple WSJ magazine covers, there's obviously a bias for Toriko with the higher ups with SJ (or whoever makes the rankings & decides what goes on their magazine). I can understand you saying there's a chance for Toriko getting cancelled soon if it doesn't get an anime for 2015/2016 (which I can see happening) but to say Naruto is the single reason why it didn't get axed is pretty weak and baseless.
