My first though is that he is a idiot.

she is blind, she will never be able to appreciate the garden to the expend he wants her to, sure she can be overwelmed by the effort he put in to it and good smell of them and all that, but at the end of the day, she is blind and he wasted years of his life he could have spend doing something more practical for his blind wife.

Yep. I reckon that one gets used to it if he's born blind, but it sucks to loose eyesight. My grandpa lost like 90 % of his vision within a year, to that point he was vital as he was in his 30s and that crushed him.

Wow, seriously? I don't even know what to say. A really touching gesture that I'm sure she really loved. If someone did something like that for me I would actually be speechless and cry.
