The problem with the media in the US is that a certain faction of people decide what the entire nation sees. If they want to show for an entire month black people being upset about white-on-black crime, they will. If they want to show puppies for an entire month, they will.

People in Africa become used to waking up hungry with no clean water. They grow to expect that. It doesn't become as difficult. Anyway, they are different people with different lives, but their emotions are the same. Just because something is less severe in your mind does not mean that it cannot be painful for anyone else to deal with. Think of phobias. There are people who are horrified of inanimate objects, and it is evident in their behavior when presented with their fear that they are experiencing excruciating terror. Their fear may seem irrational to you, but it is still fear. Think about school. There could be a perennially underachieving student who, one day, gets an A- on a test and is ecstatic. On the other end, there could be a student who would be disappointed with an A-. It all has to do with how we are individually conditioned to experience life. Do you understand?
