It's not bad parenting at all, it's called being realistic.

If that business trip decides whether you even have a job or not, then you have to step up and be a parent. Being a parent means making sacrifices for your child's benefit, not simple selfish indulgence.

If you indulge and lose your job, you have no means to provide for your family. Be pragmatic; get the trip over and done with and then go back and make up the time later.

No i would not miss it. If your business can't understand what is important to you then it isn't worth being in the business. But with that aside it also could be the male's fault as well. Because if he cares about the child he would do whatever he can to make sure he can get that day off.
