Disclaimer:I am not GFX designer neither I am expert in this field.I did like this so sharing with you.Thought it could be usefull to some one
In photopshop you can import video and create an animation easily.I tried to do that on GIMP found there was plugin for it but I was finding a more easy way.
Now to make a GIF we need frames, from a video of course.
To get the frames we can use sceenshots
If you have VLC
Go to View>Advanced settings You will get a toolbar
Here you can take screenshots and also you can play frame by frame.I found smplayer really helps because of it keybindings.I just need to hit shortcut key(S) repeatedly and it takes screenshots enough to make a good GIF.You can edit in preferences where the screenshot is saved. If you are using Linux it will end up in
~/ sweet ~/
Either way gather enough screenshots while playing that video.
Open GIMP and open the first image. Then as a layers.
Now either use Ctrl+Alt+O or Do as above.
You will get this.A stack of layers.
Now you can Play it by Filter>Animation>Playback.Check if it looks good. You can add or remove layers from stack.
Now Go to Filters>Animation>Optimize (for GIF)
If you want a frame to stay longer you can change attributes or duplicate a layer
By default it adds 100ms for every frame you can change that
If you want to scale the size Go to Image>Scale Image..Scale tool will just scale the layer.
You can use crop tool to crop it.Cutting down resolution also cuts down size.
If you are done.Go to File>Export give it .gif extenion if it is not given.
Click Export and you will see above dailog.Of course tick As animation.Interlacing has to do with something called
We are done
Here is the exported/final gif animation..
GIMP is very easy to use.you can make simple gifs with 2 or 3 frames.Any way,Thanks for reading.
Suggetions are welcome..
