A game requires at least 5 people to start, not counting the Game Moderator (GM). Once a thread is started, announcing a new game, players will have a certain amount of time to join (to be determined by the GM). To join, just reply with "Joining." Once the game has begun players may continue to join, but will be placed in queue. Queued players will be brought in to take another player's spot. At the start of the game, the GM will PM everyone thier roles (Officer, Shinigami or Kira). Keep this information secret. Noone should know who you are. There will be at least one Kira and one Shinigami. There may be more depending on the size of the game. If there are 2 or more Kiras, they will know each other (the GM will PM the Kiras and tell them). Once all players have thier roles a phase will begin. There are two phases. Night and Day.
Night Phase: During the Night noone can speak. The GM will privately ask Kira (or Kiras if there are two) to pick someone to kill. Kira tells the GM who to kill. The GM will privately ask the Shinigami to "look at someone" to reveal thier identity. The Shinigami picks someone to look at. After the Kira(s) and Shinigami have made thier selections, the GM will announce the daytime phase.
Daytime Phase: Daytime is very simple. As soon as it becomes Daytime, the GM announces a death. It will be whoever Kira picked to kill during the night. The GM will reveal the identity of the person killed (if it was an Officer or worse....the Shinigami). The GM will also privately tell the Shinigami (if he/she is still alive) if his/her selection was a Kira or an Officer. You have a certain amount of time to talk amongst yourselves at this point. There are no restrictions on speech. Any living player can say anything he wants -- truth, misdirection, nonsense, or bareface lies, but you cannot privately tell anyone what you are. When you die you can't talk at all. You have to wait until the next game. After you have had time to talk amongst yourselves the GM will then ask you to vote for who you want to lynch. Everyone will cast a public vote and whoever has the most votes gets lynched (killed). Please do not make any posts once the GM asks for you to vote. It gets confusing counting the votes when everyone is posting. Once that person is dead the GM will reveal his identity. The phases continue until one side (either the Officers or the Kira(s) wins). The Officers win if they kill the Kira(s). The Kira(s) win if they kill enough Officers so that the numbers are even. At that point they can openly kill the rest of the Police.
In Case It's Not Clear:
The Officers are trying to figure out who's a Kira; the Kira(s) are pretending to be Police, and are trying to throw suspicion on real Officers.
The shinigami is trying to throw suspicion on any Kira he discovers, but without revealing himself to be the shinigami (because if he does, the Kira(s) will almost certainly kill him that night, since he's the greatest threat to Kira national security.) Of course the shinigami can reveal himself at any time, if he thinks it's worthwhile to tell the other players what he's learned. Also of course, a Kira can claim to be the shinigami and "reveal" anything he wants.
The only information the players have is what other players say -- and who dies. Accusing someone of being a Kira is suspicious. Not accusing anyone is also suspicious. Agreeing with another player, a lot, is suspicious, and therefore, so is pretending not to agree with another player. Never voting to kill a particular player is very suspicious for both of them -- unless it's the shinigami who knows that player is innocent.
