Check out Third Kazekage's Iron Sand and 4th Kazekage kage's gold. Thats magnet release. It holds the particles together.

you didn't see iron sand or gold dust attract anything because no one was stupid enough to use swords kunai or shuriken in those situation. it allows u to use metal in the same way gaara uses sand but it makes your opponents use of any metal weapons useless because they are pulled out of their hands toward your metal. it can also magnetize your opponents making your next attacks impossible to dodge.

because the jutsu user is using magnet release to control the metal in the 'gold' dust and the 'iron' sand. you're asking silly questions

Magnet Release is a kekkai genkai composed of the Earth and Lightning chakra natures. If you check out chpt 551, youll see Edo Toroi who can use Magnet Release to control shuriken and whatever the shruken hits becomes magnatized and attracted to each other. The 4th and 3rd Kazekage took it further by controlling the metal particles in the grounds hence giving rise to Gold and Iron Sand.

Basically, if you hit one of the magnet user's shuriken/kunai, you become magnetised, which means that when he throws another weapon, it will automatically come towards your direction.

Think of a heat seeking missile, it's like that. It just locks onto a target, which is you and won't stop until it hits you.

EDIT: nevermind, that only applies to him. The other two don't have the same thing.
