Madara sought hatred for power and disrespected the village.He wanted to lead the other uchihas to their pressumed "destiny" of eternal hatred.He believed their hatred was the source of the power.


On the other hand,Itachi was capable of seeing thing different for his clan.He sought love and respected his village and
his way of thinking made him really powerful.Maybe this love of him could have been the Uchiha's true destiny.

So in the end,who deserved to be an example for the Uchiha clan?

I see,well this kind of darkness cannot work on everybody,but it came well for both sasuke and madara
