it is a manga mistake. if u look at his staff in the rest of the chapter it looks loke the old one.

hence all the bubbles around em earlier..

But they are not in the "jin Realm" when he is shown with the staff so it can't be his "self image" and even in the "jin realm" he is shown with his normal staff.
