Madara's Scythe?

Am I the only one that thought it was odd that Grandpa Madara had a scythe in his pocket? And why does he refer to himself as a Shinigami of sorts?

he didn't refer to himself as a shinigami, Obito thought he was one when he first saw him. I also thought it was strange that he had a scythe though. I guess it was just to add to his creepy old man madara demeanor? *shrugs*

his reality is hell because he cannot disconnect from the mazo or he we die, so he cannot leave

As well, Obito thought he's a Shinigami, Madara didn't proclaimed himself as a Shinigami
