This thread normally shouldn't be made because we don't have all the data required to talk about the subject. So instead of trying to say what Madara's motives are I want to say where the missing info are and see if you agree or not.
We now know that Madara as a youngster wanted peace. He was on good terms with Hashirama and even said that he finally found someone that he could communicate with, someone to whom he could show his feelings and vice versa.
But as we know Madara awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan. That means he experienced some traumatic losses (brothers died probably) and he started to go crazy (crazy not meaning stupid though, as this isn't the case in any of the Uchiha squad members).
So at this point Madara of course detested the Senju that caused his losses but still wanted peace. Otherwise we could say that he simply lost his mind, a fact that is countered by the formation of Konoha which is not a crazy man's decision.
But, Madara experienced one more loss. That of his beloved brother Izuna. I think that here we are missing info. It can't be just that Izuna lost his life in a battle. I think that there is a specific reason why Madara couldn't trust the Senju after that. Maybe one of the 2 Senju brothers killed him? Who knows.
But when Hashirama mention their brothers (and now we know he doesn't mean his macho brother Tobirama but his younger brother Itama) Madara responds "How dare you preach me?" A statement that would be illogical if both of them simply lost their brother.
What is even more confusing is the plan that Madara comes up with after his loss to Hashirama. It is a plan to make a peaceful world. When we first saw that no one believed him right? But what about now? Now it seems quite plausible that he actually desires just that perverted peace.
In conclusion, I think that Madara's motive for being evil is just his hate for the Senju. Not the entire world. Just the Senju. That can be confirmed in a slightly silly I admit way by the fact that he delivered a killing blow only to Tsunade.
So to finish my input, I don't think that Madara is evil or was ever evil. He is just an enemy of the Senju, thus an avenger of his brother.
