Its been several speculations as to how Madara absorbed the Amaterasu that clearly hit him. I have several theories as to how Madara was able to dodge this Amaterasu hit. I will start by saying that I don't think that this was the work of Preta Path at all.
In this first panel we can see Madara engulfed in Amaterasu, but rather than showing any reaction to it, he stands still like nothing is happening. The strange thing here is that Hashirama thinks, not says. That Madara is able to absorb Ninjutsu, even though Madara hasn't started to do so yet. This probably means that Hashirama has seen Madara absorb jutsu before, and since we haven't seen Madara use any Rinnegan abilities against Hashirama besides the black rods we must guess that he doesn't know about Preta Path. This means that Hashirama Senju, who fought Madara in the past had seen Madara absorb Ninjutsu withouth Rinnegan. ( As Madara only obtain Rinnegan after his final battle with Hashirama ) It may also be that Madara never absorb the Amaterasu at all.
This panel is rather revealing to Madara's dodge to Amaterasu. One can clearly see that the Amaterasu only hit Madara at the torso, more notably his armor and "sweater" on his torso. As the flame originate from that point. We also see that his eyes crack and disappears from his body, as he died without having them. This makes it impossible that he absorbed the Amaterasu through the use of Rinnegan.
Now this is where my other theory comes in and its also the panel that can ruin both my theories. My other theories is that Madara simply dropped his armor (which we see is dropped in on the ground, while its still engulfed in Amaterasu ) and clothing that was hit by the Amaterasu, same as Ai cut of his arm when it was engulfed in Amaterasu. This is logical and highly possible, it if hadn't been for one small thing. You can see that after removing his armor, small flame rests of Amaterasu is still on and around Madara. Though the reason this may support my theory too. As it may just be an visual effect added by Kishimoto.
In this panel we see Madara again without any flames on him. if the small flames that was already on Madara was just visual effects, then that explains why they are gone now. If they weren't on the other hand, that means Madara has some other absorbing technique other than Rinnegan, which Hashirama has seen before. If it is a technique which Madara has used prior to his final fight with Hashirama, then that means it isn't Mokuton either. As Madara only obtained that after the final fight. We know that Madara stated that the "Rikudou Jutsus" could be though to someone who hasn't the Rinnegan, however what we don't know is if Madara meant that you can learn who to use them, but you cannot actually use them until you obtain the Rinnegan.
Now we also see Madara bite himself on the arm in this panel, and it comes in handy as proof for the next panel right here:
If you look at Madara's arm as he absorbs Hashirama's Senjutsu, you can clearly see that it has some sort of mark like a burn mark on it. ( It at least some sort of mark on his skin ) Note how these "marks" doesn't go up any higher on his arm than he made a "cut" on himself by biting himself earlier. Now, we only know of one Jutsu that requires one to sacrifice blood and that is Summoning Jutsu. Now I am not saying Madara preformed a Summoning Jutsu of a sort, though I am saying that he needed blood sacrifice in order to absorb Hashirama's Senjutsu. So, what if this is a form of reverse seal or a overall seal used to steal chakra from another person? That would explain why Madara would need a blood sacrifice in the same manner as a Summoning Jutsu, which is more or less just a reverse seal being used to "Open" a path from someone to "teleport" to the said "door."
Now a lot of people say that Madara used the same technique to absorb chakra from this Shinobi, though I am not saying against this. However, I think this is something Madara adapted after absorbing Hashirama Senju's Senjutsu.
