I think nagato was more of a pawn, whereas Madara actually trusted obito as a partner at some level. In the end they would have found some other fodder to use as a pawn.

No. I mean giving the rinnegan to nagato was always so that he would give his life to bring Madara back. Up until now, Madara did not want obito to give his life as they were partners of a sort. If nagato wasn't the one to get the rinnegan and give his life, it would have been someone else he didn't care about. Not obito however.

Gee yu accually think outside the box. Obito been making lab rinnegans, what makes Madara eyes worth it... Prolly cause it's ancient. Maybe Obito has the eye hidden in his pocket
