That story twist makes no sense. He had a shot at being part of peace and fought against it. He wants his way, with him in charge. The way kishi has developed him, Madara could never accept that he has been wrong and he could never accept anyone doing anything he has not commanded.
I am not convinced that Kaguya is evil - just not enough has been revealed of that character yet (though most in NB seem to have concluded that she is the embodiment of evil). Madara's character kishi has thoroughly corrupted to the point of no return.
Except kishi pulls sh!# out of his a$$ all the time, so anything is possible.
