What is your opinion on Madara and his qualities as villain and characterizaiton? Do you think he is well written; or simply poorly handled.

Thread is not about how "op" or "badass(?!)" he is; it is more about his goals, if he is a legit villain, development, role in the story etc; not about his power since landing a meteor or the defeating 5 kages has nothing to do with his character portrayal.

What do you think about him?

Edit: I also realized that he was much liked several moths ago...
I swear there were loads of Madara avatars.
It is weird how much it changed.

Paper thin character in all honesty. Very little depth past his god complex...

I am seriously thinking that it's my poor interpretation of his character.

Even Team Rocket is a better villain than him, imo.

He's not hat deep of a character. Kishi ruined what could have been his development in a positive direction and switched it over to his deep lust for Hashirama.

He has a cool design and initial backstory; but once you get passed it... Not much to like.

He's one dimensional and cliche. He makes so many promises he can't keep. 'I better get serious' he keeps on saying and then next chapter he's still not doing anything. He even sat around whilst the Juubi was being suppressed. His comsant desires and urges of fighting Hashirama are childish. I just hope to god that Orochimaru isn't good.

I have got to agree with you guys.
He had a much better rep around here about 6 moths ago; want to know how it changed.

for the last time, there are no typical villains in naruto. All of them had a good enough reason to do what they are doing.
there are only few,i would really say villain[of course,by that old lousy definition of villain],i.e. Danzo, hidan, kakuzu, deidera.

and madara is very well written char. befitting that of a one of the founder of konoha and leader of uchiha clan.

Maybe he's just underdeveloped...

As in there is more to be seen. I doubt it, though.

Yeah he had one of the biggest character downfalls in the perception of readers.
At least around the base.
He is a horrible villian IMO , but I like him .

That's odd.

Yup i agree.
Thinking Orochimaru somehow is not good seems more hopeful to think about Madara's current villain self on the behalf of the villains in the manga.

I like him but I don't think he's as good written as he could've been. Kishi gave him all these awesome powers and in order for him not to wipe out everyone he feels like it he gave him the stupidest handicap: laziness. It's annoying.

I think it has to do more with Kishi's inability to kill ''important'' characters and his villains, not just Madara, are getting bashed for being luckster, they have lost that threatening nature they had.
examples
Orochimaru is ''good'' now.
Madara is playing around with Hashirama.
Obito, even as the Juubi's jin,is getting trolled from Kurama's haxxed cloaks. Lol

Guys, keep one thing in mind, you can't stitch even the events occuring in the narutoverse, if it wouldn't have been for Madara. That means if you like Naruto, you need to like Madara's character script, or else I don't have anything to say, since you people are on . Please look into these, if you need to be satisfied:

He's mediocre, tbh.

He's only relevant to this Arc. His goal is similar to Obito, but it's more justified than Obito's. After years of war, found a friend and had a dream. Couldn't be friends because they were on different sides of the war. Soon when the became the head of the family, they put aside their differences and created a village. He ran because the village didn't want him to be Hokage. The Uchiha Clan didn't trust him. Thus, making him believe he couldn't keep his little brother's promise and protect the Uchiha.

How Kishi is portraying Madara is a guy who enjoys fighting strong people.(Hashirama) We know Obito hate reality, but with Madara it's hard to tell. So it's like... why the hell do you want the Moon's Eye Plan?
