Who is superior in terms of strength?
I believe Madara has gained more than Indra, as he possesses the Complete Susano'o and now the Rinnegan, along with Hashirama's DNA (which probably originated from Ashura).
Indra is depicted with possessing only the Sharingan.
It's somewhat disappointing that Kishimoto decided to remove the unique eyes Indra had and replace them with simple Sharingan, but it makes sense as to who truly originated with the Sharingan and why nobody possesses those odd swirl-patterned eyes Indra had.
