Madara, Tobi, & the Naka Shrine

This may not be a new concept but it brings to question a lot of things that have been explained recently.

Madara may have found out about how to awaken the Rinnegan and possibly have written it (added it) on the tablet in the Naka Shrine.

During a conversation between Madara (Tobi) and Itachi, Itachi mentions that Madara had gotten into the shrine undetected (possibly). Was he looking for information on Madara's results/research?

So basically what was Tobi trying/expecting to find in the shrine? Was Madara keeping something from him?
