The way madaras facial expression is it seems he did not see it coming and hashirama knows this.

But in today's chapter Hashirama's wood clone approach's madara and he instantly tells hashirama no a clone is too boring

Hashirama is shocked because normally he knows madara couldnt tell the diffrence and now all of a sudden he knew.

Madara can see through his wood clone's & he is unable to see the diff bcoz he is run out of juice and deactivated his Sharingan & He is observing Hashi all the time so he saw him making clone's ,,,,

nope madara said several times that only he could see through hashis wood clones. The reason that hashis wood clone"killed" him, is because he didnt have sharingan activated to see it wasnt him.

And hashi was not surprised that madara knew he was a wood clone, just surprised that madara didnt want to fight him(yet).
