Madara makes no sense.

Madara's goal was to become alive again. That means giving up immortality. For what, his moons eye plan? When he dies that would probably go away. And to be honest its a pretty dumb plan you just have to not look at the moon (have shikamaru tell the whole alliance not to look up or at puddles of water)

So now, madara is alive, even if he is more powerful, he will still eventually die. Meaning his plans are for nothing. Since he died once already, he should know his plans are pointless if he is dead.

Does he just want a second life to mess with people and feel alive ?

From what I know, (or think I know) madara had a cap on his power while being an edo.

Makes sense cuz he can just do it all over again if he fails again. He can hide away and sap charka from the mazou while white zetsu does his biding
