After Madara awakened his sharingan, he fought Hashirama in war. He was not his best-friend....at least I don't think he was. How else would he have awakened the MS?

Guys you don't have to kill your best friend to unlock MS( sick of people thinking that) you just have to experience a painful moment. Sasuke didn't kill naruto to get it, itachi didn't kill Shisui to get it, Obito didn't kill Kakashi. Madara probably lost someone he considered a brother or maybe even lost his father.

I meant that after Madara awakened the sharingan, Hashirama was no longer friends and all they did was fight in war. They never met up at the lake anymore.
