I think personally that through reading the tablet Madara gained knowledge of the past and certain powers and at some point learned of Kaguya and tried to replicate her powers but underestimated her

Black Zetsu was carrying Kaguya's will. He pierced Madara and then you can see that the black from zetsu spread over his body, which means he will be controlled by black zetsu, which will be controlled by Kaguya as it's her will.
