There is indeed a connection between Madara and Kaguya as Kishi potrait it several times. Madara is after Kaguya's power like the Sage described it, thats also one of the reasons why we are seeing Kaguya as a clarification.
The sage described them both as power hungry. I believe Kaguya is helping Madz, because they show many similarities. They both share the same goal.

How can you be a puppet when you'r standing on top of the world achieving your very own goal that you planned over 100 years ago?

The only proven puppets are Obito, Nagato and Sasuke. Madara is the one who created this puppet chain link and will stay the mastermind no matter how many of you cry.
