I think that when the Edo's are dissipating they can hold on longer depending on their strength. That is why the fodder Edo's went first and quickly and Itachi and Madara are able to hold on longer because of their great strength. I might add that the Shisui dialogue was long awaited and friggin' awsome.

I don't think so, and madara will probably return somehow but I don't care if he does or not.

I'm more interested in Tobi to be honest anyway, he was the man behind most of the plot that's not gone any way. Although Madara is cool, the mystery of finding out who Tob is much more exciting.

A reasonable explanation, but plot no jutsu is just as good.
