Much like hashirama who was a fighter, a sensor and a medical ninja and was extremely skilled in all of them. So it only makes sense that Madara who is his counter part would be skilled in all 3 as well. Remember he also healed Obito of his wounds. Not to mention that Tobirama too is a good sensor.

Their variety of skills was what made the Senju so deadly, they mastered all fighting styles from medical, to taijutsu to kenjutsu to ninjutsu to fuinjutsu etc.. And most high ranking Senju members have been shown to be profficient in all of the above.

No place describes Hashirama as been a sensor, alright. His clones might have been powered to be but not Hashirama. Tobirama was the sensor amongst the two.
