Do you think he trusted Hashirama during their fight? Sounds like a stupid thing to do given it's a fight to the death.

[Sub]He trusted Hashirama wouldn't kill him. Defeat him, sure. But not kill. That wasn't the first time they've fought seriously. Among their many fights, there was this one time Madara took on Hashirama + Tobirama + several other senjus. The fight lasted for 24 hours, and finally when Madara was defeated, Tobirama (quite predictably) wanted to kill him right there and then, and Hashirama did not allow it. Instead, Hashirama opted to take his own life, if it meant that peace would be restored between them. That must have stirred something in Madara. The dynamic of their relationship was kinda like Batman and Joker - whenever they fight, Joker has kill intent, and Batman the intent to defeat him and put him behind bars. Joker knows batman will never kill anyone, and in a sense, he trusts him to not kill him either. However, in this case, Madara was wrong; Hashirama would kill anyone, if it meant that his people (the leaf village) will remain safe. Hence his weakness.[/Sub]​

It's not really a weakness per se. He was exhausted that's why Hashirama managed to stab him. Second time it was a trust issue.

If someone fights Madara head on at full capacity this so called weakness does not exist.
