[Theory] Madara has NOT fought a Gate user before!

The release of chapter 667 made a lot of people ( including myself ) think that Madara had once fought a user of the Eight Inner Gate, the Gate of Death. However, I don't think is the case judging from chapter 668 that was released earlier today. However I think he has heard a great deal about this technique, as he seems to have some knowledge of it and how it works. Page 15 of the new chapter is where Madara first comments on the gate and the way he does so implies that he has only heard about it or at least never seen it before.

Its either that he has never seen it before, or he claims that Gai's use of the gate is laughable compared to what he's seen in the past. However I don't think that is the case as to the way he reacted when Gai started to explain his conviction for using the final gate. Madara doesn't really seem to fully understand the gate, something that is good for the plot right now as it means that Madara doesn't already have information regarding the power level of the final gate. That means that Gai may actually manage to catch him off guard and do some damage to him.

But it does give Gai a better chance, and it may make some people happy. Since Gai, now has a logical reason to be able to even hurt Madara.

Yeah true true... But in the end no one will hardly remember such a great feat because Nardo and Sauce will be back in the spot light :/.But congrats Gai for potentially hurting Madara with out any pnj power ups

yes I agree ... I don't think there were many Gate users before.... +now not only Madara, but even us as Manga readers have never seen 8th gate before... looking forward to see its specifics

He was alive and unable to leave his cave, he even stated so himself. That is why I said that he may have heard about the gate from someone such as Zetsu.

I mean, given that Madara is about 100 years old, I would believe that he has heard about it in the past.
Maybe he thought it was a myth, and only heard about it through rumors, that's why he seems to know some stuff.
That also explains why he keeps on getting surprised by Gai's sheer speed, maybe he underestimated the rumors?

i'm pretty sure no more than a handful has actually seen the eighth gate. madar will undoubtedly win, but i believe he will take a beaten in the meantime.
