He got stabbed, and he managed to get some Hashirama Cells in that battle.

He goes onto fight that epic battle against Hashirama; let's not forget we haven't even got to the part where he forms the alliance with the leaf.

I made a thread about this hahahahahahah thanks

I always said and thought madara cut hashirama with his sword
then hashirama took the sword from madara and stabbed him with it
and it was stuck in madara's body as he walked away..
