Yes but the manga showed madara awakening it as old man I think he awakend it in his prime.
he is right though. I remember Madara stating that it was awakened as he approached death's door. Then in the issue where obito 1st approached Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan they showed a flashback of an already withered Madara awakening the Rinnegan....

Another plothole?

Good catch though bro. I thought I was the only one who noticed that.

When Madara said that he awakened the Rinnegan right before his death, he meant that the Rinnegan appeared before his natural life-span expired. Before his life-force ran out, he summoned the Gedo Mazou, hooked himself up to it and pumped his body with Hashirama/Gedo Mazou chakra to keep himself alive.

As long as he was connected to the Gedo Mazou, he would remain alive, although his natural life-force ran out.

This guy said it correctly, theres a panel in the manga that shows Madara in his old age awaken it so it cant be after the fight.
