He's a creature summoner by the sage is the only difference. Just because she doesn't "poof" afterwards doesn't mean he should be treated anyways. He's a more advanced "summon" if you will... His chakra poofs eventually if you'd like too put it into those terms too...
This came to mind when noticing enough topics of "Madara beats x without Kyuubi" or some similar such.
It translated to me like "that pain that summons beats X without summoning" sort of concept.
He controlled the 9 tails, and therefore it was his summon for a time. Much like it was Naruto's mothers "summon" for a time. That's how I look at it at least...
So, to me, not including Kyuubi into (that time frame Madara's arsenal) is like taking the summons away from ninja's that summon creatures too fight (no Pokemon-mo).
