If you look here madara says that he has great eyes when talking to hashirama
He almost tells him about the sharingan he supposedly has already...

yhen we see here his brother and father are implying that madara had just awakened his sharingan at tht moment
which is plausible being as he only has one tome

or did Madara unlock it at an earlier time and this is the first his family has seen of it :dunno:...?

Like everyone else said, he didn't tell anyone about it before that point. He likely let everyone see it at that moment because it was a moment of strong emotion and he wanted to assert some dominance.
