Shikamaru's mother teached some discipline to him and so on...Behind every great man, there is a great woman. What kind of mother you think Madara and Hashirama- the greatest Uchiha and Senju- had? (They really should have appeared in the anime)

Yes, that's a high probability, specially in Hashirama's case, we never got to see her. But in Madara's case I think he had few contact with her because there is a huge propability he saw Izuna as a baby,and consequently his mother.

You know, it's quite strange we never got them to talk about and how they lost them, as their story revolved around war, strife and losses etc.

Hashirama's dad was a total douche; I'm guessing his mother was kind, but died when Hashirama and his brothers were young, causing their father to become hardened and angry in his grief.
