Chapter 7
They were running toward Kodoku's house so they could plan their next move, and so she could tell them about the links. They had no idea that the Moon got closer to being taken over. 'I promised I'd get revenge for the lake. I will keep that promise!' she told herself.
“Are you sure heading back home is a good idea? It's obvious that we'd go there. Isn't that why we've been caught off guard every time? We thought we'd be safe for a while, but in reality we weren't safe at all,” Taki said.
“That's one of the reasons why were heading back. We'll be expecting something this time, but we don't know what to expect,” she explained. “The other reason is Kikai. We need him to fight with us. It's all or nothing, and I choose all!”
Nobody argued with her. She didn't want Kikai to fight while he was injured, but there was no other choice. They knew that Kikai was needed if they wanted to end the war. She hoped that he would be alright after the war. No, she hoped that everyone would be alright after the war. She still couldn't believe that Yaburu had to die because of Kai. Using people was one thing, but using them until they died was another thing.
If she could manage to change Kuroi back then they would have a better chance at winning. Kai stopped her from changing him back, so there had to be a reason why. 'Does he want Kuroi to kill us off while he tries to focus on the Moon?' she asked herself.
That wouldn't happen. She wouldn't allow anyone to die if she could do something about it. Kuroi was already suffering; it would only get worse if he killed his family.
“There's the house. There doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary,” Taki reported.
“Of course it's normal, Taki. Kai thinks we're dead. A Dark Rift was something that was impossible to stop. Miku was the first person to stop a Dark Rift. People tried, but they died trying,” Katei explained.
Believe it or not, she forgot that Kai thought they were dead. She would have expected that to haunt her mind since they were so close to death, but she barely remembered stopping the Dark Rift. She only remembered the light. Maybe they would be safe for a while if they were supposedly dead. If they were safe then she could rest, and Kikai could rest.
She looked up at the moon, and then glared at the darkness around it. The dark aura around the moon was stronger than it was before. It seemed like the aura doubled in size. Was it because one of the links were destroyed? If that was the case then if anything happened to her everything was over.
They entered the house, and she basically fell on the couch. She was so tempted to close her eyes and sleep, but there was no way the others would allow her to sleep.
“We know you want to sleep, but we have to talk about everything first,” Kodoku said. “Kikai? How are you feeling?”
It seemed like she was the only person who liked the sleep first, and then talk later idea.
She was tempted to just ignore them and sleep, but Katei clapped his hands in front of her. “Don't sleep. We'll try to make this short so you can sleep, okay?”
She only nodded. They could talk after she woke up, unless Kai somehow knew they were alive and attacked.
“I feel better than before. I don't have trouble walking anymore,” Kikai said as he walked into the room.
She couldn't even see the cut marks. She couldn't tell that he got injured, and she saw him a few hours ago.
“Make this quick. Miku is obviously exhausted, and we need her to be ready for the final battle,” Kikai said. At least Kikai knew she needed to sleep.
“We have to defeat Kai. He's trying to attack the Moon, which would change everyone. If we don't hurry then it will be too late,” Kodoku said.
“We don't have to hurry,” Taki countered. “There are links that connect the Moon to our world. The Moon can't be taken over until all the links are destroyed.”
Of course he knew about the links. He betrayed them, but Taki betrayed him. She didn't completely trust him yet, but they needed him to beat Kai. As long as he hated Kai then there was no way he would betray them again.
“Then we have to protect the links. Where are they-” Katei asked.
“One was already destroyed! The lake was a link, but it was destroyed in a matter of minutes!” Miku interrupted. “Not only was it destroyed, but I almost changed! If I change then it really is over! I'm the only link left! That's why I'm the only hope left!” She didn't want to yell at them, but everything was happening too quickly. How was she suppose to adapt to everything so quickly?
“That's it. Miku, go rest. If you listen to the conversation it would only cause you stress. We don't have to plan anything immediately, and it seems like you know everything already,” Kikai said quietly.
She didn't have to be told twice. She instantly closed her eyes, and then everything went black.
