love the soundtrack to naruto anime

Man the anime may not be where it needs to be but I have always loved the traditional style music they play. Could anyone tell me what instrument that is? I can picture it in my head I just cant tell you the name. But ya great soundtrack and it really helps you connect with the characters on a more emotional level.
