Honestly I'm sorta ashamed to say that when I thought of Gai up until recently, I only thought of, "oh he's just there to pester Kakashi and be his rival." I never really thought that he was a very dimensional character other than his unique personality and supremecy in taijutsu.

That is until I took another look at his influence on the series...

Even back in part one, he had been shown as more than just a Jounin. He had been shown as a Sensei who deeply cared for his students, namely Lee...

But looking back at him as of his last few chapters, he has been shown as a companion to Kakashi and even a friend. I think a lot of us get so hooked up on the "eternal rivals" thing that we forget that they know each other on another, more casual level. Simply said, they seem like really good friends, putting aside their bickering and constant challenges. :y

Throughout the war Gai has been encouraging Naruto, Kakashi, and the others to keep pressing forth against their fight with "the masked man" (NOT GOING TO SAY TOBI, due to trolls who "absolutely know" he's Obito/Izuna/Shisui,etc.):sy: I feel like he is really shining in this war and is proving just why he is a Jounin and how powerful and inspirational he is. :D

What do you guys think? Upon looking at his contribution to the series, do you feel that there is reasonable depth to his characte? Was this a rather youthful analysis? Am I off or am I on the right track with my analysis or not?

For future reference don't ever use the coding you just used; it's big, hard to read, all over the place and isn't appealing at all.

OT: Meh, I don't really see anything special coming from Guy.

He's always been one of the best characters in the series, even going back to part 1, he even risked his own life to save Kakashi, Asuma, Kurenai and Naruto from Itachi and Kisame(granted, he wound up hitting the J-Man on the Naruto situation, but whatever). He has the same love for his comrades and village that Kakashi does, and along with being one of the most powerful in the series, he's one of the most caring.

gai was never just another jounin...i liked him from the time of garra vs lee.

then in the itachi fight, he gained a lot of respect from me then. since then he hasnt had much of a role, but in part 2, he fought nicely against kisame - and the whole time only using taijutsu.

i think his only ninjutsu is the turtle summon. can anyone confirm this? i havent seen anything else (or cant remember it).

At first I didn't like Might Guy, but as the series progressed I realized just how skillful he actually was despite using mainly taijutsu. In fact, I can't remember a fight Guy even lost, and he competed on par with Itachi (Itachi even advised Kisame not to underestimate Guy).

That being said, I do think it's about time to see the 8th inner gate. I think it has to be revealed at some point in the manga, and these foes (tobi, madara, etc) are powerful enough to warrant it being shown. If that happens, Guy may die and it may not totally defeat the opponent, but I think it might cripple one of them in such a way that they can win in the long run. Also, there is Rock Lee who is very promising and will most likely take Guy's place.

Remember that going 8 gates is probably what Guy Sensei will be forced to do when the juubi is revived...

I know one thing, Guy is gonna go out with a bang! :3

Of course, Guy is a beast. He's not your avarage jonin, you know.
It takes GUTS to be a rival of Kakashi, even self-proclaimed.

He is a great character with alot of influence on his team and also on Kakashi. He is a far better teacher than Kurenei and Asuma plus he adds many funny scenes. And he is badass as a fighter too.

I have been really happy to see Gai kicking ass again. I was getting a little bit "sick" of his being useless during the entire sea voyage arc, so seeing him match's Tobi's speed with those nunchucks was satisfying.
