I don't understand why people think that if you are a close range fighter, you are at a disadvantage to a long range fighter. I've seen many victories of close range fighters against long range: Neji vs. Kidomaru, Sakura/Chiyo vs. Sasori, Naruto vs. Gaara. Those are just a few examples. Tell me what you guys think.

for one a long rang fighter does not have to close the distance that a close ranged fighter has to.....the close ranged fighter runs a higher risk of being hit by his opponent.....if the close ranged fighter is not good at evasion they'll be defeated.....basically the close ranged fighter would have to trick the long ranged fighter to get in to striking ranged to win

Where in the hell does a gun and knife come from? If I can recall, I said range fighting, not a shootout.

As everyone else has said, having to get in close to an opponent puts you at a disadvantage if that opponent can attack you from a distance. However, this does not mean that close-range fighters cannot beat long-range opponents just because they are at a disadvantage. Additionally, certain short-range attacks (the original Rasenshuriken) pose a threat to the user when used in close.

As for the examples you gave, Naruto beat Gaara with the help of the Chief Toad (who has long range capabilities). Furthermore, Shukaku did not demonstrate very many long-range attacks. Sakura only beat Sasori because Chiyo was also a long-range fighter. Sakura probably would have died if she faced Sasori alone.
