If it was a battle to the death and Madara managed to survive it with genjutsu, why did Madara not kill Hashirama?

Hashirama was, imo, under genjutsu, since he thought he stabbed Madara in the heart, but no shinobi bar Hidan and Tsunade can survive that.

XD only kishi knows. Yes it was a battle to the death but the priority might still be to collect hashis cell. After all he wanted to unlock the rinnegan to resurrect the juubi and carry out his eye of the moon plan.

Well come on! Obito was just a Madara replacement ! Someone to revive madara when the time was right. Madara told Obito he "gained" power from hashirama Senju (DNA) after defeat. So after taking off plotting a plan for a fake world he needed somebody to carry out this plan and prepare for it. So Obito was the right choice (as he slip throughout the stone) So Madara told Obito the story of his battle and obito just blew it out of context when he told Konan....cause remember it was years after the story so you can't blame him for changing the story a bit....or he forgot and just said what he had remembered. =D

However he didn't stab him in the heart, he stabbed him in the middle of the chest. And also, Madara said he escaped DEATH... meaning it wasn't a genjutsu, but something else that unabled him to survive the blow. If it was a genjutsu he wouldn't have the mark in the same spot.

Well hashirama did all he could to kill madara, it takes 1 intend to kill to name it death match. So technically it was to death. But madara only wanted so6p power.
