Avengers: Age of Ultron star Scarlett Johansson has reportedly been offered in the neighborhood of $10 million to play the lead role in a live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, Deadline reports.

DreamWorks had reportedly been eyeing Margot Robbie, but talks stalled and now Robbie appears close to signing on for Warner Bros.'s DC Comics adaptation Suicide Squad.

Johansson, fresh off a hit with Lucy and hugely sought-after in lead action roles at the moment, should have some time in her schedule, considering rumors that her character will play a small-to-non-existent role in Captain America 3, as opposed to the very significant role she had in The Winter Soldier.

Rupert Sanders, the director of Snow White and the Huntsman, is set to direct the film, based on the wildly popular Japanese Animation of the same name.

I was never a fan of the series , but I'll give it a go with Scarlet in it .

Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite series so I'd definitely go and see this; while live action films usually fail I feel like this could work. Plus the special effects should actually be really good.

What is that series about?
A science fiction setting following Public Security Section 9, led by Motoko Kusanagi, who deal with crime and public conspiracies etc. Cyberpunk iteration of the future where a large percentage of the public has cyborg parts, including Motoko who is mostly robotic. It also delves in philosophical territory with the "Ghost in the Shell" referring to an all robot being possessing a soul. Dealing with our existence, non-human rights and the meaning of life, that good stuff. Half the series is individual cases, much of the time psychological, and the other half follows an overarching story-line involving the hacker Laughing Man
