I honestly think Kishi had him panned out to be a bad guy in part 1, but changed it around in part 2. There was just a couple things that didnt make sense. 1. He diverted danger toward the village trying to capture Naruto 2. He knocked Kakashi out cold for a couple days with Tsukiyomi. His actions didnt scream Kohona protector or secret spy for that matter in part 1.
You can cease thinking that now. Shortly after the manga ended, Kishimoto confirmed in an interview that Itachi's twist was indeed planned. At least from the time he was introduced through a flashback (which was during the Chuunin exams for Sasuke). His story was one of the very few he had in mind since the character's introduction.

Q4: “Why did you decide to introduce a strong enemy like Zabuza right at the beginning of the series?”

A: Kishimoto says that he wanted to do this right off the bat to show off Kakashi’s strength as an example of what an experienced ninja can do in the Narutoverse. This would set some cornerstones down in the manga straight away and make it easier for the audience to put things into perspective. Kobayashi points out that there were many things introduced in this arc that played huge roles right until the end of the series (kekkei genkai, sharingan etc), but Kishimoto just said he was ‘bluffing’ with these things in the beginning [nb: in other words he just made them up without any thought on how to use them in the future]. At the time he was just making these things up for the excitement and suspense, but didn’t pick up on what to do with some of these threads long-term until later. Basically he was making it up as he went. Even with Sasuke’s backstory, at the time of the Wave Arc, all that had been thought out was that Sasuke had an elder brother who had done something bad, and that was it. Kishimoto admits the planning was very hazy at this point. However, at the point where Itachi is actually introduced, Kishimoto had decided to secretly make him a good guy, but the reason he did something bad was because of circumstances. Kishimoto also says that although he introduced the Sharingan as being able to copy moves, the premise on what the Sharingan could do changed drastically over the course of the storyline.

Wrong. He went there to Let Danzo know that he is still very much alive. Even leaked information to Jman so he can take Naruto out of the village for a while. Cuz think about it. Danzo very much could've kill Sasuke and take control of Naruto right after 3rd hokage death.
Plausible, but still doesn't make sense. Danzo was close to Oro who was at one time part of the Akatsuki, he most likely already knew Itachi was alive. Secondly, the Village became secure when Jiraiya arrived, this is eveident by the elder committe approaching Jiraiya to be Hokage, the same elder committe Danzo is apart of. Thirdly there was no scans and hints to prove Itachi leaked any info to Jiraiya, infact Jiraya had the info about the Akatsuki way before Itachi entered the village. Its all just mere specualtion.

Which is why Sasuke admitted that Naruto had something that no one else had. His heart was so open minded that it had the power to change a lot of people.

Thanks, that cleared out alot of questions. Now its makes sense why Itachi's ambiguous tone was more of a "anti-hero" than "good guy" in part 1, Kishi was making it up as he went, and though he knew Itachi was going to be good later on, he didn't have Itachi's transition completely panned out.

Just gonna randomly throw a name...Don't take it too serious...

Ichigo Kurosaki.

lol Naruto and Ichigo are the only two main anime characters I just don't like.
They aren't the same to me. Ichigo gets way more girls than Naruto.
