A 12 year-old girl in Ethiopia was abducted and beaten by a group of men with plans to force marriage upon her. The innocent girl, missing for an entire week, was found guarded by three lions.

She was beaten repeatedly before finally escaping into the wild. Sgt. Wondimu Wedajo was at the scene of her rescue.

"They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest," Wondimu said. “If the lions had not come to her rescue, then it could have been much worse.

Often these young girls are raped and severely beaten to force them to accept the marriage," he said.

Wild life experts believe she may have been protected due to the sound of her cries. The whimpering of a young girl may have resembled the sound of a young cub.

And? The headlines said news and I was a bit surprised when I saw the date when it was first published, hence the comment. That was merely an observation - one that kind of threw me off. When you say news people assume it some newly received info about some recent event.

The story is nice but when you are copy pasting stuff mention the source and verify if possible. If you want better responses, you can add that extra details in such cases. You personal take on the news also would help in better discussions and focus on things you aimed for- in this news itself there were more than one issue involved.

One part is nice another really tragic- A rumored surprise rescue by Lions along with the problem of forced marriage by kidnapping of young girls. Lions rescuing a human kid while there are themselves target of poaching and nearly extinct. Condition of women/female childs in such countries and so on. Discussions grow if you can steer them well enough.
