I’d forgotten what it feels like.

I blame myself
for how we changed.
I blame myself
for the gaping fallacy
in our aching whispers.

Silence.

Can you hear the words
moving through our fingers?

Hand to hand
I feel you everywhere.

I wonder how it would be
if our whispers were never
witnessed.
Trees scarred my arms
with emerald tongues;
Rain ruined
my mask.

You took my withered hands
and painted a decaying world.
You did this, even though
you knew
I was impossible.

We were anchors.
I needed a distraction
from conscious thinking.
Your hands,
your fingers.

They were my distraction.

I dressed up in daylight dreams,
lined my eyes with endless nightmares
and left a lipstick stain
on our imaginings.

I’ve lived
in a state of suspension.
I promised
to love,
to live,
until my eyes ran dry.

Keep your eyes shut.

what’s in store.

But memories still linger.

These moments
